mbed OS Roadmap

Current Status

The current release of mbed OS is 15.11 Technology Preview.

What is new in mbed OS 15.11 Technology Preview?

Technology Preview features provide early access to upcoming product innovations, enabling you to test functionality and provide feedback during the development process. This release adds a number of enhancements and bug fixes and lays the foundations for future features and enhancements. Developers will find these enhancements detailed in documentation on mbed.com, particularly in the release notes .

We welcome you to explore and evaluate the different software components, tools and services. We are looking for feedback and contributions, and we'd love you to help us build mbed OS and the software ecosystem surrounding it.

Please note, some features may not be functionally complete, and are not intended for production use. As mbed considers making future iterations of Technology Preview features generally available, we will attempt to resolve any issues that customers experience when using these features.

If you have any questions or comments about the readiness of mbed OS, please post in the mbed forum.

Developing with the latest release of mbed OS

Target MCU porting

Silicon partners are now invited to develop support for different MCU targets by creating mbed OS ports. The "mbed-drivers" and "mbed-hal" APIs are currently evolving as we improve them so porting activity will require additional work to track changes. Working with us now means your targets will have early support for subsequent releases of the features.

Libraries

Developers are invited to develop new libraries for mbed OS or to port existing mbed SDK libraries. However, mbed OS APIs will change until they are marked as stable in the release documentation and will require tracking.

Applications

Developers embarking on a new application with a development cycle of duration between 9 to 18 months may want to start using mbed OS. Please understand components are at different stages of development and be willing to refactor (once or more) as APIs are stabilized. For applications requiring features that support shorter development cycles, please continue using the mbed SDK, tools and services.

If you have an existing application developed using the mbed SDK, this is a great time to get familiar with mbed OS software and tools and consider porting.
